4 Preventive Maintenance Benefits You Should Know

At certain milestones, your owner's manual will advise you to follow the preventive maintenance schedule for your vehicle. In general, these services include topping off or changing fluids, replacing worn auto parts, and inspecting different systems. By following your vehicle's routine maintenance schedule, you can minimize the risk that you'll experience an unexpected problem on the road.

Learn more about the benefits of preventive maintenance below:

1) Reduce Unexpected Repair: Imagine this: You're driving when the check engine light turns on. You have no idea why it's on but you know you need to get a diagnostic. That's an expense and repair you didn't expect. Preventive maintenance helps you reduce the likelihood of this happening, because technicians may catch an overly worn part of problem before it becomes an issue while you're driving.

2) Control Your Time: When you run into an unexpected problem, you need to find time to get your car to an auto repair shop. If you follow a maintenance plan, you have more control of your time. You can look ahead in your owner's manual, so you know when you're due for services and plan accordingly. Following the maintenance schedule also means you won't need to address everything you've been putting off all at once!

3) Keep Your Warranty Intact: If you're covered by the manufacturer's warranty (or most aftermarket warranties), you're required to take care of your vehicle. Make sure you stay compliant with the agreement so you don't need to worry about being on the line should something covered fail. We recommend keeping a folder in your vehicle, where you can keep your maintenance records as proof, should you ever need them.

4) Increase Sale Value: Maybe you plan on driving your car until it can't drive anymore, but maybe you'll choose to sell it in the future. Having a maintenance history will net you points with buyers. You can also use this history to argue for a higher sales price than a vehicle without proof of its maintenance history.

At Capistrano Tire & Brake Complete Auto Repair, we prefer no surprises (unless they're the good kind). We offer preventive maintenance services to help our customers avoid surprises on the road. If you think you may be due (or overdue) for maintenance, give us a call. We'll schedule you in and ensure everything looks good. You'll also feel good knowing your vehicle has had its maintenance performed. Consider it another item off your "to-do" list, and a well warranted one at that.
